City Bajao Seeti |
In the wake of growing crime against women, the need of the time is to prepare our girls and women to deal with any abusive situation. The emphasis is not just on self-defence but also on generating self confidence, so that they can fight back as heroes if the situation demands.
Who can forget the dark night of 16th
December, 2012 when the unfortunate Nirbhaya case happened that shook
the entire nation. Delhi is facing such unfortunate incidents on a daily
basis where a helpless victim is subjected to eve teasing or assault or rape or violence or any un towards unwarranted behaviour. The
situation becomes worse when an alarm is not raised to appraise the
community or passer by and protect the victim. Besides administration,
even the community should be responsible to protect every helpless
victim. Save The Children India- Delhi Chapter has taken the initiative to empower our girls and women by providing all with the suraksha seeti. The City bajao Seeti is an effort to empower our girls and women.
The concept of this campaign is that any girl or women is in distress
and is subjected to eve teasing or assault or attack or rape or any
unwarranted behaviour , she can blow a whistle and that can set an alarm
and community can come n rescue her. The blowing of the whistle would
be deterrent enough to scare the predator and in case he does not stop,
the communities intervention would save her. The
pilot project has already been launched in Delhis biggest urban
village, Sarai Kale Khan wherein the community has been trained to
respond to the sound of whistle and girls and women have been sensitized
on the use of Suraksha Seeti when in distress. The training on
self defence has also been given in a government School and a Corporate.
It has been done under the able guidance of Belle Staurowsky from USA who personally takes the sessions in India. Save the Children India Delhi Chapter is going to announce this effort of empowering our girls and women with a Suraksha Seeti City bajao Seeti on 6th
December, 2013 at the Christmas celebration at Save The Children India,
86 Sarai Kale Khan Village, near Sarai Kale Khan Bus Terminus, New Delhi from 2 pm onwards. You are cordially invited to come and be a part of celebration and also do a coverage on the City bajao Seeti so that our endeavours have the maximum outreach and as many women and girls can be empowered to fight in crisis. |
