DG CRPF INAUGURATES UN WOMEN COURSE ON GENDER SENSITIZATION FOR SECURITY FORCES IN CONFLICT AREAS

Sh Dilip Trivedi, DG CRPF today inaugurated a five day Special Training Programme on Gender Sensitization, Women Exploitation & Abuse in Conflict Areas.

The main ideology behind the course is to prepare a group of trainers who would train the personnel who will be going on various UN missions. Dr. Rebecca Reichman Tavares, the representative of UN Women, India, Bhutan, Maldives & Sri Lanka was also present on this occasion. A total of 50 trainees are participating in this training programme. The programme will go on till 19th September, 2014 and includes a session at the specialized school of RAF – RAPO( RAF Academy of Public Order ) at Meerut (U.P.).

At present 2 Formed Police Units, both male & female are deployed in Liberia under the aegis of UN, where they have to provide support in management of Law & order and safety & security to UN personnel & property, public order management, protection of officials/diplomats and UN staff & properties. The female contingents of CRPF (FFPU) have played a role in tripling women’s participation in Liberian National Police, which is in sync with UN’s zero tolerance policy to prevent or respond to sexual exploitation and abuse.

Speaking on this occasion, Sh Dilip Trivedi, DG CRPF said that the CRPF contingents deployed under UN Mission in Liberia are working marvellously there and the female contingent there have worked as an impetus for ‘gender streamlining’. He also apprised the gathering that they are now engaged in community participation apart from their normal duties.

Dr. Rebecca Reichman Tavares, representative of UN Women also addressed the august gathering and speaking on the occasion, she quoted the President of Liberia, Sir John Sirleaf, who said  that When Women are safe, Nations are safe. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms Smita Mitra, Programme Manager, Women Peace & Security, UN Women.

Sh Vivek Dube, ADG (Trg), Sh P.V.K. Reddy, ADG (HQ), Sh Ajit Kulshreshtha, ADG CRPF and other senior officers of the Force were present on this occasion.
